Sweaters have not always been knit in pieces, requiring extensive finishing.
Using the guidelines provided by Elizabeth Zimmerman’s EPS
(Elizabeth's Percentage System), Priscilla Gibson-Roberts Knitting in the Old
Way, and Jacqueline Fee’s Knitting Workshop, our sweater project will be knit in
the round, using traditional basic guidelines that produce sweaters that fit
well, are comfortable to wear and do not require massive amounts of finishing.
This class is an in-depth study of the “why” and “how” of sweater construction –
gauge, how to measure and why, how to choose the appropriate techniques for cast
on, inc, dec and bind off. Class handouts will provide guidelines for measuring
to fit, creating and personalizing a schematic/template and knitting directions,
making and measuring a successful gauge swatch to provide accurate gauge,
construction and finishing techniques, and identifying and correcting mistakes.
