| Textures & Cables for Arans and Other Sweaters SKU: 5470 A series of seven 2-hour classes. Take one or take them all! Explore textured stitches and cable patterns. In the class, students will work on a sampler made up of stitch patterns for the particular category of the class. Students may sign up for the entire series of classes, or pick and choose sessions of interest. Class Fee: $10 per session Materials: Yarn: 1 skein of smooth-textured, light to medium colored Knitting Worsted weight. May be 2-ply, 3-ply, or 4-ply. Recommended yarns are Cascade 220 or Encore. Knitting needles: US size 6 (4.0 mm) or 7 (4.5 mm). For class #6: US size 4 (3.5 mm). Miscellaneous items: ring markers, Susan Bates Knit Chek® or ruler, tape measure, scissors, crochet hook. For classes #2, 4, 5, and 7: a cable needle. Prerequisite: Individuals should know how to knit and purl, increase and decrease. Note: The final class, Morphing Cables, requires some experience with cables. See the class description. 1. Simple Texture Stitches are knit/purl stitch patterns with repeats of 2 to 4 sts and up to 4 rows. They are suitable for filler panels in Arans, or for when you want something other than Stockinette Stitch for your project. Date / Time: Saturday, 3/13/2010 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 2. Simple Rope Cables are the basics. By doubling their width and crossing to the right and to the left, you can easily create more elaborate cables that are fun to do. This class will also include narrow cables of 2 or 3 sts wide, and how to cable without a cable needle. Date / Time: Saturday, 3/27/2010 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 3. High-Relief Texture Stitches include the blackberry or trinity Stitch, and patterns with bobbles and Irish knots. Date / Time: Saturday, 4/10/2010 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 4. Open or Lattice Cable Patterns have ribs that move progressively over a background stitch such as reverse stockinette. Class includes how to extract simpler secondary cables from more elaborate patterns for a coordinated look Date / Time: Saturday, 4/24/2010 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 5. Closed Ring Cables can be individual motifs, vertical columns or horizontal rows. The class sampler will have at least one of each kind. Date / Time: Saturday, 5/8/2010 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 6. Rib patterns will go beyond the basic K1, P1 or K2, P2 ribbing. Helpful for the Morphing Cables class. Date / Time: Saturday, 5/22/2010 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM 7. Morphing Cables change from one cable design into another, or from ribbing into cables or cables into ribbing. Skill level: Advanced Prerequisite: Must be completely familiar with cables, having completed more than one project with cables in it, OR have taken all of the previous cable classes 2, 4 and 5, and have completed all of the samplers for those classes.
